Life Update

I have taken a blogging break and I'm back! Well, sorta! When I officially started blogging in April, I had a very specific vision for this blog. However... this happened!

Marlon and I purchased a van to finally make my nomadic dreams come true! This Dodge Ram Promaster 1500 will soon be converted into a camper for us to live in full-time! The dream is to travel across the USA, then to Canada and Alaska and anywhere our van can take us! With this new and exciting change comes changes to this blog. When I first launched SSG, I wanted the blog to be more food-centric with a mix of lifestyle and travel posts. I wanted to share recipes, baking guides and hacks, however, living in a van will obviously make my options limited. To be honest, I'm still working on the kinks... probably even rebrand! In the near future, there will be more travel-related blog posts.

So why vanlife? Why not? In 2014, a documentary on Netflix titled "Maiden Voyage" changed me to the core! It's about a 14-year-old girl's journey around the globe on her sailboat. She became the youngest to ever circumnavigate the world solo on a sailboat. I remember watching this at the time of my life when I was feeling stuck, stressed and unfulfilled. I had just found out that my dream business (pastry shop) was not my dream after all! Laura's courage inspired me! Not soon after, I started taking sailing lessons in hopes of sailing around the world just like this young brave girl. So silly of me to not realize that my husband isn't exactly excited about sailing. I had to put this grand dream aside. However, the dream of a nomadic lifestyle remained. And vanlife seems like the more feasible option!

Why not RV? In fact, RV was my first choice! Having an oven and a decent-sized fridge will allow me to stay on track with SSG. We've actually already picked the RV, made a down payment and need to come back to complete the paperwork and walk through. Somehow, my husband and I agreed that it just didn't feel right. That night, we talked about our options and re-visited the van conversion option. The following day, we went to the dealership to see how much space there is on a Ram Promaster, not planning on purchasing anything. We drove off the lot with it! And it felt right! We chose the Dodge Ram Promaster over an RV because we primarily it is stealthy and more suited to our travel style. We were planning on getting a travel trailer and hauling it around can be daunting compared to a van.

I will be posting more updates really soon! Cheers!
